President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed the members of the government’s Transition Team, tasked with ensuring a smooth handover of executive authority to the incoming administration. The appointments are made by Section 1 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).
The appointed members of the Government side of the Transition Team are:
- Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare – Chief of Staff (Co-Chairperson)
- Godfred Yeboah Dame – Attorney-General
- Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu – Minister for Presidential Affairs
- Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam – Minister for Finance
- Hon. Henry Quartey – Minister for the Interior
- Hon. Dominic Nitiwul – Minister for Defence
- Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey– Minister for Foreign Affairs
- Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah – Minister for Local Government
- Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah – Minister for National Security
In line with Section 1 (2) of the Act, additional members of the team include:
- Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh – Head of Civil Service
- Dr. Nana Ato Arthur – Head of Local Government Service
- Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari – Secretary to the Cabinet
- Mr. Edward Asomani – National Security Coordinator
The Transition Team will be formally inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, following a meeting between President Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Dramani Mahama, who will serve as Co-Chairpersons of the Team. In the absence of the President, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare has been designated to act as Co-Chairperson.
In addition, President Akufo-Addo has appointed Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, former Speaker of Parliament, to the Advisory Council. The current Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, will chair the Advisory Council.
The President-elect, Mahama, earlier today his side of the Transition Team, which will work alongside the government side to ensure a seamless and peaceful transfer of power.
The statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Office the Presidency, Eugene Arhin noted, “The President-elect has, as of earlier this evening, put out a statement announcing the members of his side of the Team.”
“The Team is tasked with ensuring a seamless and efficient transfer of executive authority, as mandated by the Act, to maintain stability and continuity in governance. The President reaffirms his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition to strengthen the nation’s democratic credentials further.”
