Akufo-Addo deserves a thumbs-up for Alan’s appointment as Minister – Lecturer

Alan Kyerematen is Trade Minister

Political Science lecturer at the University of Professional Studies Professor – Accra (UPSA), Nii Amartei Amartey has commended President Akufo Addo for appointing Alan Kyeremateng as Minister for Trade.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen has tendered in his resignation letter to President Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 5, 2023.

It is believed the decision by Mr. Kyerematen is to allow him to focus on his presidential ambition.

Commenting on the development on Starr News, Mr. Amartey said President Akufo-Addo could have denied Mr. Kyeremanten the opportunity to serve in his government but he did not do that.

According to him, Akuffo Addo rather did an amiable thing for not considering past occurrences between him and Alan Kyerematen within the NPP.

“I think Akufo Addo did very well in terms of giving Alan Kyeremateng the opportunity to also work at the Trade Ministry. If you cast your mind back there was this conflict between Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyerematen because it was suspected that Kuffuor was supporting Alan Kyerematen against Akufo-Addo. Any childish minded person might have dropped Alan Kyerematen because of what people suspected happened that brought a conflict between Akufo-Addo and Alan.

“But I think for Nana to have given Alan the chance to serve in his government and for him to have him at the Trade Ministry which gave him some semblance of visibility is commendable. Because the Trade Ministry is a very hot place and so I think that he had a chance and he has used it to his benefit and to the benefit of Ghanaians,” Mr. Amartey stated.

He continued: “Therefore, he would have gathered quite a few qualities. Of course no man is perfect so definitely he would have stepped on a few toes, done the wrong thing here and there. Ultimately, I think he did well and all of these will form part of the decisions of the electorates to give him the job or not. So, I think he has more work to do and for which reason I think he should drop the tools now so he could go on to work”.
