All schools in New Juaben South now have KG as Assibey Yeboah hands over new facilities

The outgoing Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency in the Eastern Region Dr.Mark Assibey Yeboah on Wednesday handed over five modern Kindergarten classroom blocks to the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The projects were funded through his share of the MP’s share of the GETFUND.

The beneficiary Schools are Nsukwao M/A Basic School, Falayia Islamic school, Enyirede Agavenya R/C basic School, Nyamekrom Basic School while that of Simpoamiensa is expected to be completed in the next few months.

The facilities have washrooms, changing rooms, water closets and water storage facility. They also have staff offices.

This is in fulfilment of Dr Mark Assibey Yeboah’s commitment to ensuring that all Basic schools in the New Juaben South Municipality have KG facilities to encourage enrollment in early childhood education.

In 2008, Ghana included two years of pre-primary education (Kindergarten) as part of its constitutional commitment to Free and Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE).

In spite of the progress Ghana has made in improving access to education for all, there are still challenges preventing thousands of children from going to school to learn. It is estimated that 1 out of every 4 Children with pre-primary school-going age is out of school in Ghana.

The school environment of public schools usually not friendly to learning, classes are overcrowded, water and sanitation facilities are inadequate.

Many public schools in New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Regional Capital had no Kindergarten discouraging enrollment of children of school-going age.

Worried by the situation, the outgoing Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Mark Assibey Yeboah, committed huge chunk of his share of the MP’s common fund to construct modern KG classroom block in every public school without KG Facility.

“I identified lack of Kindergarten in six schools in New Juaben South Municipality -Mahdeen,Falayia, Argavenya , Nsukwao, Simpoamiensa , Nyamekrom and the rest so we embarked on this journey of providing all Schools without Kindergarten with modern KG block and I am proud to say this the last in the picture when this Simpoamiensa project is done then every school in New Juaben will start from KG all the way to JHS”

He added “I have always focused on education I wanted that to be my legacy. From the provision of Scholarship, providing computers, laptops, anything connected with education I have been interested in. so when I saw kids go to different communities to begin KG it was a concern. If you look at this place (Simpoamiensa ) previously there was no school, children had to cross the main road so having a full set of basic school with KG is the way to go”.

Fred Roddy Nukunu, headteacher of Nsukwao M/A Basic School said management is expecting an increase in enrollment of KG pupils following the provision of modern KG classroom block.

The New Juaben South Municipal Education Director Victor Degraft Etsison commended the MP stating that the root of education is pre-primary which is very critical to the development of cognitive skills, physical, mental and emotional growth.

He said the intervention by the MP provide equal opportunities for all children in the Municipality.

Meanwhile, Dr Mark Assibey Yeboah is constructing a six-unit classroom block at RIIS Basic School.
