Aluta FM 92.1 and activist Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah of Democracy Hub have issued separate retraction statements and unreserved apologies to three Regional Ministers following comments broadcast on the station alleging their involvement in illegal mining activities..
The Ministers are Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister; Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister; and Joseph Nelson, Western Regional Minister.
The allegations were made during an interview on the station’s Anopa Koko morning show on Tuesday, November 18.
In a statement signed by Simon Kofi Adu, Aluta FM admitted that the comments aired on their platform were inappropriate and lacked verification.
“After reviewing the broadcast, we acknowledge that these allegations were inappropriate and should not have been allowed to air without proper verification or clarification,” the statement said.
The management apologized to the ministers, their offices, and all affected persons, stressing that the claims do not reflect the station’s position.
“We wish to state clearly that Aluta FM does not support or endorse unfounded claims… We therefore retract the allegations in their entirety and offer our unreserved apology.” The station added that it will strengthen internal editorial procedures to prevent a recurrence.
Separately, Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah also admitted that his comments were baseless.
“Those remarks were not based on truth, evidence, or the official position of Democracy Hub,” he said, explaining that he “was led by the spur of the moment during the live broadcast” and accepting full responsibility for what he described as an inappropriate and unfounded accusation.
He added, “I deeply and unreservedly apologize to the Regional Ministers… for the harm and distress my words may have caused,” and further apologized to Democracy Hub and the public, pledging that future engagements would be guided by facts and integrity.
However, three petitioners — Daniel Sasu Omari, Jerry James Suker, and Darren Jackson Pra — have written to the CID requesting an investigation into the allegations, stating that the retraction and apology do not fully resolve the matter.
