A man has been shot and killed in broad daylight by two unidentified assailants riding a motorbike at Asawase in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Friday, July 25, 2025.
According to EIB News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent, Isaac Justice Bediako, the victim whose identity is yet to be confirmed was shot twice and died instantly, sending shockwaves through the community.
This marks the second of such killing in the area within a week. On Tuesday, July 22, Abdul Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri, was shot dead in a similar attack at his residence near the Asawase F-line community centre.
In that incident, the assailants, also on a motorbike, reportedly used an AK 47. The Chief was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The recent wave of violence has heightened fears among residents and traditional leaders, with many expressing concern over growing insecurity in the municipality.
Police have cordoned off the crime scene and launched an investigation into Friday’s shooting. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the two incidents are linked, but the proximity in time and location has raised alarm.
The Ashanti Central Regional Police Command has deployed additional personnel to the area and assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and restore calm.
