Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has attributed recent low voter turnout in the Ashanti Region to growing disillusionment with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Starr 103.5 FM on Tuesday, July 29, Nana Yaa Jantuah said the historically pro-NPP region is no longer convinced by the party’s leadership, warning that the trend reflects a broader crisis of confidence.
“Can you see how Ghanaians queued to go and vote and how the strongholds of the NPP refused to go and vote?” she asked, adding that “If your people didn’t come out to vote, it means you failed.”
She cited the former President, Nana Akufo-Addo’s own words during a media appearance as a trigger for the party’s troubles in its stronghold.
“Nana Addo went to a radio station in Otech to say that ‘I don’t care, you can vote for NDC,’ when he was questioned about the Kwabi road, Mamponte,” she said. “So if you say people in the Ashanti Region can vote for the NDC and they didn’t vote for you, have they done wrong?”
According to Nana Yaa, the President’s dismissive tone and the government’s inability to meet local expectations have alienated core supporters. She believes the recent apathy from voters in Kumasi and its surrounding communities is a strong sign that “the people have lost confidence in you.”

“The NPP people in the Ashanti Region; in Kumasi specifically and its environs, were begging people to come and vote, and they did not even look into their faces,” she added.
She concluded that President John Dramani Mahama’s message of renewal has begun to resonate with voters. “That is why His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has decided to bring change and make people happy.”
