The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Teddy Nana Yaw Addy is hot as all attempts made to allow him go unopposed have failed.

His sole contender Eric Owusu Damptey, a businessman and Lawyer has been cleared to contest the primaries by the Eastern Regional vetting committee of the party.

The vetting committee of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC ) in Eastern region on Wednesday August 16, 2023 vetted aspirants in four outstanding constituencies whose parliamentary Primaries were put on hold over petitions.

The four constituency were -Afram Plains South, Akwatia, Ayensuano and Lower West Akyem.

At the end of the vetting process which prolonged to Wednesday evening, Members of Parliament for Afram Plains South and Akwatia constituencies -Joseph Appiah Boateng and Henry Boakye Yiadom respectively were declared to contest unopposed in the parliamentary primaries.

In the case of Afram Plains South, all three aspirants – Asirifi Yaw Paul (Lawyer), Maxwell Asare Ampadu and Grace Adiepena (midwife) who contested the MP Joseph Appiah Boateng were disqualified on grounds of not being card bearing members of the NDC for four years. Specific in the case of Grace Adiepena, she was caught for forging her membership card which did not correspond with the name in the register.

“Asirifi Yaw Paul was disqualified because his membership is not up to four years and per the guidelines you have to be a member of the party four years or more before you can qualify .Maxwell Asare Ampadu was disqualified based on the same membership issue. His membership is not up to four(4) years. Grace Adiepena was disqualified based on forgery. She forged another person’s membership number and based on that she has been disqualified” the vetting committee explained.

Nobody filed to contest incumbent MP for Akwatia, Henry Boakye Yiadom therefore goes unopposed.

For Lower West Akyem constituency, all three candidates Owen Kwame Frimpong, Michael Adusei and Majid Nuhu were qualified to contest despite failed attempt made by Michael Adusei to injunct Kwame Frimpong over allegation of business fraud.

However, the bailiff was blocked and redirected to search for his house and serve him accordingly.

Jamal Konneh, Eastern regional secretary of the NDC said all disqualified aspirants may contest the decision at appeals committee for determination before the primaries slated on August 25, 2023.

“All the candidates who have been disqualified has the opportunity to appeal from tomorrow and meet the appeal committee and if the appeal committee says otherwise then you can be qualified to contest otherwise they are disqualified as it stance”.

Chairman of Eastern Regional legal team, Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi, Chairman of the Eastern Regional Legal team of NDC Lawyer Minta Larbi urged prospective aspirants to read carefully guidelines of the election to ensure they qualify before contesting to avert negative impression to supporters of deliberate disqualification which affects unity of the party.
