The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Zebilla, Dr. John Kingsley Krugu says more than 100 people have been killed in Bawku over the renewed clashes.
This follows the decision to withdraw the bench warrant issued for the arrest of a rival chief that was installed two years ago by the Nayiri.
Mr. Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah who was then the Minister of Information signed a letter that was clear that the government had condemned that act and had given a directive to the security agencies to arrest anybody who carries himself out as a Bawku Naba other than the one sitting on the throne.
However, in an interview on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Mr. Kingsley Krugu stated that there has been ongoing fighting over the last two days, which has led to the loss of many lives.
“In the last two days, there has been sustained and continuous fighting because people have lost their lives—young lives. The fighting has extended today along the road between Bolgatanga and Tamale, with people holding guns, hiding by the roadside, stopping cars, checking ID cards to identify tribal affiliation, and killing. Yesterday was the bloodiest of these days, and it doesn’t make sense.”
Dr. John Kingsley Krugu continued by saying that over 100 people have been casualties as a result of this renewed conflict in the area.
“I can tell you that over 100 people are gone because I have information on the ground. I know that it is a full-blown war. If you have contacts at the Presby Hospital, check what happened last night.”
Dr. John Kingsley Krugu further stated that innocent people who do not belong to either the Mamprusi or the Kusasi tribes have been killed in their cars.
“It is worse than the picture painted. Some people who were killed on the road were even mistaken for being one of the tribes, but they were not. They were killed, and I have some pictures on my phone; they are neither Mamprusi nor Kusasi.”
As a result, Dr. John Kingsley Krugu has issued a statement suspending his campaign and calling on the government to intervene to restore peace in the area.
“I issued a statement two days ago suspending my campaign and calling on the government to take immediate action to save lives and property.”
