Former Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has expressed strong support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 presidential elections.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV with Lilly Mohammed on GHOne TV, Rev. Fordjour described Dr. Bawumia as a leader with vision and humility, emphasizing that he would make “a very fine president” if given another opportunity.
“Dr. Bawumia embodies a lot of humility, a lot of vision. Given the history of various presidents from both NDC and NPP, most of them had to go three times, some even two times. We’ve even had a certain president who lost and had to come back, ran again, lost a second time, and then eventually won. So there’s absolute wisdom in giving Dr. Bawumia another chance to lead the party,” he stated.
With reports that Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong is also considering a bid for the NPP flagbearer position, Rev. Fordjour acknowledged that the contest would be highly competitive. However, he urged all aspirants and their supporters to prioritize party unity.
“I urge all candidates to be very responsible, very circumspect, and very sensitive to the fortunes of the party. They should sell their vision and ensure their supporters do not engage in utterances or actions that could harm the party’s unity. Whoever wins, we must all rally behind them,” he added.
