A player of Ghana Premier League side, Berekum Chelsea was killed in a violent armed robbery attack on their team bus on April 12, 2026.
The 20-year-old forward, Dominic Frimpong, who was on loan from Aduana Football Club since January 2026, succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head sustained during the incident, which occurred on Bibiani–Goaso road on Sunday, 12th April, 2026.
The attack occurred when the team was returning from their Ghana Premier League Matchday 29 fixture against FC Samartex 1996 at DUN’s Park in Samreboi, which they lost 1-0.
Reports indicate the armed robbers blocked the team bus, prompting players and officials to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Several members of the squad sustained injuries in the chaos.
Frimpong was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
In an official statement released on Monday, Aduana Football Club expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy.
“Aduana Football Club is deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving Berekum Chelsea following their Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex 1996.
“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Dominic Frimpong, a player we proudly loaned to Berekum Chelsea. This is a devastating loss to both clubs and Ghana football as a whole,” Aduana Football Club wrote in a statement.
Frimpong had made a positive impression during his loan spell, registering 2 goals in 13 league appearances for Berekum Chelsea.
Berekum Chelsea is yet to confirm the death of the player.
