The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central in the Eastern Region, Solomon Kusi Brako, has urged Ghanaians to be all-embracing and join forces with the government to fight illegal mining, popularly known as Galamsey.
This, he said, is the only way of helping nib the canker which is fast destroying the country’s environment and water bodies in the bud.
“Politicians are very key in the fight against illegal mining. Some of our political opponents tend to make unfounded allegations as they see the fight against galamsey as opportunity to score cheap political points. So if we don’t do away with the unnecessary politicization of the issue of galasmey, we will fail…,” he said.
Speaking on Kasapa FM’s Morning Show, Ghana Kasa on Monday, November 3, 2025, the MCE said Ghana will not succeed in the fight against galamsey if the back biting from political opponents do not cease.
He also mentioned that there is the need to also involve chiefs in the fight as they play major roles.
“Chiefs are also part of the major stakeholders in the fight against galamsey because they allocate lands for mining…,” he said.

Chiefs, he continued, “will be of help if they start demanding licenses from people they allocate lands to and also ensure that the miners embark on the reclamation of land because most of the miners do not engage in the reclamation of land.”
The MCE who was optimistic the fight against galamsey will be successful with the cooperation of all stakeholders also demanded that security personnel in various mining communities work to ensure that only licensed excavators are allowed entry into various mining areas.
