The Bureau of National Communications is set to take over the management of the national emergency number – 112 – for efficient and effective service delivery, Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said.
All emergency and distress calls to the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the National Ambulance Service or the National Disaster Management Organization will go to a central call point before being directed to the appropriate agency for immediate action.
On a tour at the BNC outfit in the Ashanti region, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful noted Ghanaians want quality service hence the processes must be simplified.
“I keep saying I hate speaking to machines so do Ghanaians. I can’t make a distress call and the machine will be asking me to press 1, 2, and 3 or follow voice prompts coupled with a no action. I am not expecting paper works or plans but rather substance. Let us walk the talk and provide apt actions to the populace,” Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful told officials of BNC.
According to her, positioning the management of the emergency call number at the office of the Bureau of National Communications will ensure the systems security and maximise results.
On his part, the National Director of BNC Adu-Boahene promised efficient service and said currently the system operates three centres.
The national 112 Emergency Number was being managed by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications.
