At least 19 passengers sustained serious injuries—four of them critically—after two Sprinter Benz buses collided at Awutu Bonsuoku in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region in the early hours of Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
The collision, which occurred around 4:00 am on the Gomoa Ojobi–Senya Bereku Road, involved vehicles with registration numbers AC-804-16 and GR-5137-18. Both buses were severely mangled from the impact.
Eyewitness Kennedy Awuah told GHOne News’ Yaw Boagyan that residents were jolted awake by a loud crash. “We rushed to the scene and saw the two Sprinter buses in the middle of the road.
The impact was heavy, and most passengers were badly injured. It looked like one of the drivers was sleeping,” he recounted.
He revealed that one bus was traveling from Senya to Kaneshie, while the other was heading from Kasoa.
“Both drivers lost their legs. The police arrived quickly and helped transport victims to different hospitals.”
Confirming the incident, the District Police Commander for Senya Bereku, DSP Kingsley Asante, attributed the crash to poor visibility and suspected driver fatigue.
“Four victims in critical condition are currently receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital. Thirteen others were rushed to Hope Christian Hospital at Gomoa Fetteh, while two were sent to the Senya Bereku Polyclinic,” he said.
One of the injured passengers, Ebenezer Eshun, speaking from his hospital bed, confirmed that the driver coming from Kasoa appeared to have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the head-on collision.
Police say investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, residents and commuters are urging authorities to increase road safety checks along the route to prevent further tragedies.
