Young fashion designers from the Catechist Georgina Korankye Memorial Fashion school say they are poised to make a mark in the fashion industry; Ghana and beyond.
The Fashion School named after the late Catechist Georgina Korankyewaa with aims to extend a hand-up opportunity to teenagers and young adults held its 2nd graduation over the weekend accompanied.
The event witnessed a display some of unique and original designs by the graduates who had passed through the one and half year programme under the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).
Speaking to Starr News on the back of the graduation and fashion show, Human Resource Manager, Beatrice Ofori emphasized the importance of gaining a skill in this trying economic times.
“For us, the plan is to empower every child, not just females but also males. We want them to be fully equipped, have that skill and be useful as we always which we could have.”, she said.
“Last year we graduated with one gentleman and we are proud to say they all leave here fully equipped. Some come here with no idea about sewing but within six month they leave a mark”, she added, encourages all interested to pick up the craft.
The graduates, we say they poised to conquer the fashion industry rebuffed assertions TVET courses were for people who struggled academically.
“Being a fashion student, you have to be academically endowed. Fashion designing should not be deemed as an escape route for less brilliant students. It’s a field I will encourage those out there in interested in fashion to join”, Marian Agyeiwaa Larbi, best graduating student told Starr News.
