Manhyia South organizer gives account of NAPO, Wontumi, Otumfuo impasse

The Constituency Organizer for the New Patriotic Party in the Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Abubakar Alhassan aka Aboba has given an account of what happened between himself and Chairman Antwi Bosiako known as Chairman Wontumi that has resulted in him been reportedly hauled before Manhyia.

Speaking in an interview with Abusua FM‘s morning show host, Kojo Marfo on AbusuaNkommo; Aboba recounted that after the vetting of Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the panel, led by the National Organizer of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, acknowledged the good works of NAPO.

“However, Chairman Wontumi, who was present, did not utter a word about NAPO’s performance but appeared uncomfortable and displeased. After the panel’s acknowledgment, NAPO left the vetting room.”

According to Aboba, he confronted Chairman Wontumi, accused him of being in a bad mood and having a negative attitude towards NAPO, calling him a wicked man.

He (Aboba) claimed that he spoke out of pain because he was familiar with the political relationship between Dr. Matthew Prempeh and Wontumi. Aboba had expected that Wontumi would acknowledge the positive contributions of NAPO, such as the financial support he provided to Wontumi when he rented an office space for the party.

“I know the good works NAPO has done for Wontumi. I remember in opposition after Chairman Wontumi rented an office for the party, Wontumi came to meet with NAPO at Golden Tulip now Lancaster hotel, NAPO gave you one hundred thousand Ghana cedis, he wasn’t a minister then but supported you with one hundred thousand cedis”

Furthermore, Aboba mentioned that NAPO donated items to 275 constituencies in 2018, with all 47 constituency executives in the Ashanti Region converging at Wontumi’s house to pick their items. Despite these achievements, Chairman Wontumi did not acknowledge NAPO’s goodwill,” Aboba noted.

Aboba concluded that Chairman Wontumi’s reluctance to acknowledge NAPO’s contributions stemmed from his opposition to NAPO’s bid to become the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He also stated that he could not confirm whether Wontumi made any disparaging comments against Otumfuo, as he left the vetting hall after the heated confrontation with Wontumi.

There are however indications the New Patriotic Party has been invited to present its Ashanti regional Chairman; Wuntomi, before the traditional authorities over allegations that he made disrespectful comments aimed at the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II while the confrontation ensued.
