The Chiefs and opinion leaders in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region have formally endorsed Edelmetallum Resources Limited’s mining operations in the Asumenya Forest Reserve, located within the Nkawie Forest District.

Their endorsement follows confirmation that the company has met all regulatory requirements for its activities.

Prominent local leaders, including Otumfuo Twafuohene, Baffour Opoku Agyemang; Manso Abuosohene, Nana Obeng Bempah I; and Assemblyman for the Manso Abuoso Electoral Area, Mr. Oppong Ebenezer, made this known during an interview with Media.

Compliance with Regulations

The leaders stated that they conducted follow-up checks with key regulatory bodies such as the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and verified Edelmetallum Resources’ compliance.

“We’ve confirmed that Edelmetallum Resources Limited possesses all the necessary permits and approvals to operate in our area,” said Nana Obeng Bempah I. “We are confident that the company is adhering to all regulatory requirements.”

Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives

The chiefs and opinion leaders also praised the mining company for its impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including the provision of water projects, support for school infrastructure development, and other community-based projects.

“Edelmetallum Resources has been a responsible corporate partner,” they noted. “Our community has benefited greatly from their presence, and we look forward to a continued partnership for the development of the area.”

Environmental Sustainability Efforts

During a site visit, observers noted Edelmetallum Resources’ ongoing reclamation activities on previously mined land, signaling their commitment to environmental sustainability. Abraham Essel, District Manager of the Forest Services Division at Nkawie, confirmed that the company has fulfilled all requirements for reclamation and replanting trees in the area.

“We are satisfied with their compliance so far,” Essel said. “Our team will continue to monitor their activities to ensure they adhere to environmental guidelines and safeguard the forest reserve.”

District Support

Hon. Clement Opoku Gyamfi, District Chief Executive for Amansie South, provided official documents to the media, confirming the legality of Edelmetallum Resources’ operations. He emphasized that the company’s compliance with regulations is crucial for fostering trust between the community and the mining sector.

Mining Sector’s Role in Ghana’s Economy

The mining industry remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s economic development, with gold production driving the sector.

Ghana, one of Africa’s leading gold producers, benefits significantly from mining activities, which contribute substantially to GDP, foreign exchange earnings, and employment opportunities for thousands of Ghanaians.

Government Approval

Edelmetallum Resources Limited received its mining lease from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, on August 16, 2024.

The company demonstrated its capacity to undertake mining operations efficiently, citing its financial, technical, and human resources.

This endorsement by traditional leaders and regulatory bodies underscores Edelmetallum Resources’ commitment to responsible mining practices and its positive impact on the local community and Ghana’s economy.
