Hundreds of newly posted teachers poured onto the streets of Accra on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, to demand the immediate release of salary arrears owed them by government.
The aggrieved educators, operating under the banner of the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Teachers, say they have been teaching for up to 13 months without pay—despite being officially posted and serving in classrooms nationwide.
The protest kicked off at the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, with the teachers chanting and holding placards before marching toward Jubilee House, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Finance.
Their final stop was the Finance Ministry, where they sought answers from government over the prolonged salary delays.
Beyond unpaid wages, the teachers are also demanding the issuance of staff ID cards, which are necessary to process their salaries.
Leaders of the coalition blasted government’s handling of the situation as exploitative, stressing that no professional should be expected to work for over a year without pay.
“This is not only unjust—it is demoralising. We are carrying the burden of shaping Ghana’s future with empty pockets,” one protest leader declared, vowing that the demonstration would continue until their concerns are fully addressed.
