Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to global aviation safety, security, and sustainability at the 42nd Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montréal, Canada.
Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe praised ICAO’s leadership in driving recovery and resilience in aviation and urged stronger cooperation to help African States close safety gaps and modernize infrastructure.
He announced the rollout of Ghana’s Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems in August 2025, aligning with ICAO standards and UN Security Council Resolution 2178, to boost aviation security.
The Minister highlighted major investments, including upgrades of Kumasi and Tamale airports to international status, plans for a flight training school, and a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) center to serve West Africa.
He also revealed steps toward establishing a national airline to strengthen connectivity.
On climate goals, Mr. Nikpe reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to ICAO’s net-zero targets through CORSIA and sustainable aviation fuels.
He later met ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano and transport ministers from Nigeria and the UAE to deepen aviation partnerships.
