The Coalition for Integrity in Governance-Ghana (COFIIG) has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to remove Mr. Kissi Agyabeng from his position as Special Prosecutor.
The petition, dated October 20, 2025, was submitted through the Office of the Chief of Staff at Jubilee House.
In the petition, COFIIG’s Executive Chairman, Hon. Simon Yaw Awadzi, a native of Aborlove-Nolopi in the Keta Municipality, cited alleged incompetence, misbehavior, mismanagement of public funds, and conflict of interest as grounds for the removal.
“Since assuming office in August 2021, the Special Prosecutor has received substantial budgetary allocations, yet there has been no public record of audited financial reports detailing the use of these funds,” the petition stated. “It is imperative that a comprehensive forensic audit be conducted to establish accountability and public trust.”
COFIIG also raised concerns about the office’s effectiveness in the fight against corruption. According to the group, despite having strong statutory powers and substantial funding, the Special Prosecutor’s office has failed to deliver tangible results, including major convictions or asset recoveries.
“Competence in public administration is demonstrated through measurable impact, transparency, and effective execution. In this regard, the Special Prosecutor has shown administrative weakness and ineffectiveness,” the petition read.
The petition further accused Mr. Agyabeng of misbehavior and insubordination, highlighting reports that he withheld investigative dockets from the Attorney-General’s office for several months, delaying key extraditions and frustrating coordinated anti-corruption efforts.
COFIIG urged President Mahama to take immediate executive action, emphasizing that the removal of the Special Prosecutor would restore public confidence and ensure accountability in the office.
As of now, the Office of the President has not responded publicly to the petition, and it remains unclear whether any steps will be taken toward the removal of Mr. Kissi Agyabeng.
