The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect popularly known as Cyborg following the circulation of a viral video showing him discharging a firearm at a public event in Accra.
In a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Police said the arrest was carried out by the Cyber Vetting Team at the CID Headquarters.
The incident occurred at the El-Wak Stadium on December 28, 2025, where the suspect was captured on video firing a gun during a public gathering.
Police identified the suspect as Abubakari Sadick, alias Cyborg. He was arrested on December 29, 2025, at Adenta for the unlawful possession and discharge of a firearm.
In the viral footage, Cyborg is heard admitting that his actions were not permitted under Ghanaian law, while appealing to President John Dramani Mahama, whom he mentioned as he described himself as the “Accra New Town Street King.”
He claimed the gunshots were a “government salute” fired in honour of Nigerian Afrobeats artiste Asake.
The celebratory gunfire, reportedly marking Asake’s visit to some Ghanaian neighbourhoods, sparked widespread public concern and condemnation on social media.
The CID disclosed that the firearm involved — a Derya MK-12 bearing registration number 22-GHA-1162 — has been retrieved and secured as evidence to aid investigations.
The suspect is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before court to face charges.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has cautioned the public that possession of a registered firearm does not confer the right to discharge it indiscriminately.
The Police warned that firearm licences can be revoked and offenders prosecuted accordingly.
