Former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, has picked nomination forms to contest the flagbearership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser, Gloria Huze, led some female constituency and branch executives from the region to pick the form on behalf of Dr Duffuor, after paying the GH¢30,000 nomination fee.
The excited NDC members were accompanied by some supporters of the party who carried portraits of Dr Duffuor amidst the singing of popular party songs accompanied by a brass band.
They later presented the nomination forms to Dr. Duffuor at his office.
Addressing the teeming crowd of supporters, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana said consultations by his team indicate that the party’s grassroots desire being be led by a new candidate.
“Under my leadership, the true meaning of power to the people shall be brought to reality as the constituencies and branch executives shall be empowered politically but more importantly economically to fully participate in the democratic processes of the NDC and Ghana,” he said.
He assured that when he’s elected unemployment and poverty will be eradicated at the grassroots level of the party through his Ahotor project which is one of his Dr Duffuor, economic empowerment programmes.
Touching on the economy, the astute Economist and Banker vowed to rescue the country out of the current financial crisis and restore it onto a path of economic recovery and restoration within two years.
“It took us only one year in 2009, and we can do it again because Ghana, the Black Star of Africa, cannot afford to be in this position; Ghana will soar again under the NDC,” he emphasized.
Citing the period of 2009 and 2012 when the country was being led by the NDC government during which Ghana had an enviable Gross Domestic Product growth rate of 14.5 percent, the highest in its history, Dr. Duffuor appealed to NDC members to throw their weight behind his candidature to enable him to lead the country to chalk more of such successes.
