Police in Nkawkaw have arrested fourteen suspected drug users during a swoop operation conducted in connection with a demolition exercise within the Kwahu West Municipality in the Eastern Region.
The suspects were allegedly caught smoking substances believed to be Indian hemp near the demolition site and reportedly attempted to obstruct the ongoing exercise.
Confirming the incident, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu West, Tamimu Halidu, said the suspects are currently in police custody and will be screened before being processed for court.
He explained, “Around 3:30 a.m., the commander called to inform me they were embarking on an operation, and I gave the go-ahead. We apprehended 14 suspected individuals for investigation. We’ve cleared the whole area, including their ghettos and all items found there.”
Mr. Halidu cautioned residents against using demolition or construction activities as cover for criminal behavior, emphasizing that the police remain resolute in maintaining law and order.
