Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has urged newly trained teachers from the SDA College of Education in Koforidua to pursue excellence in their professional lives by dedicating enough time for learners instead of social media, particularly TikTok.
Speaking at the 15th Congregation Ceremony of the College on Monday, October 20, 2025, the Minister commended the graduands for their hard work and perseverance, describing teachers as conerstone of nation building and “the quiet architects of the nation’s destiny.”
“The theme for today’s ceremony, ‘Pursuing Excellence in Teacher Education’, is not a slogan to decorate the programme, it is a call to action, a challenge to make excellence a lifestyle,” she said.
According to the Regional Minister, “Excellence is not found in perfection but in the determination to do better today than we did yesterday. It is seen in the trainee who stays up late, not to scroll through TikTok, but to plan a lesson that will make learning come alive for her pupils,” she added.
She stated that teachers are builders of minds and agents of transformation.
“If doctors save lives and engineers build bridges, teachers build the minds that make them possible,” she said

The Minister praised SDA College of Education for its blend of faith, discipline, and academic rigor, which she said produces teachers of integrity and compassion.
“In a world that often values success over character, this institution reminds us that true education nurtures not only the mind but also the heart. That is the Adventist touch, and it deserves to be celebrated,” she said.

Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey encouraged teachers to teach with patience, creativity, hope, and love, despite the challenges they may face in the classroom.
“There will be days when you will feel tired or unappreciated. On those days, remember that somewhere, a child’s future is being rewritten because of your courage to keep teaching,” she said.
She assured that the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council remains committed to supporting education and strengthening institutions like the SDA College of Education, recognizing that the region’s progress depends on the quality of minds being nurtured today.
The Minister motivated the new teachers to step into their careers with humility and purpose.
“Let your classrooms become sanctuaries of transformation. Let your chalk be your instrument of hope and your words the seeds of greatness,” shExcellence is not about being better than others; it is about being your best self every day.”
