Hotels and Guest Houses in Kwahu-Bepong and Mpraeso in the Eastern region are being terrorized by a gang of robbers operating in the area.
Information gathered indicates that, the robbers strike during events such as funerals and social gatherings when people patronize those facilities.
Several hotels in the area have fallen victim to the operations of the robbery syndicate who take away monies of the hotels and valuables of their guests.
The phenomenon has become a nuisance to the hoteliers as Police in the area seems to be helpless in dealing with the menace due to inadequate staff and vehicles to patrol.
Akanzabe Chrysanthus, a Manager in one of the affected Hotels in Kwahu-Bepong in an interview with Starr News said the insecurity environment which they operate is affecting the hotel business.
“For some time now, armed robbers have been disturbing us, anytime we have guests mostly during funeral, and other occasions then they come in to loot phones and other personal belongings of our guests so it has been going on for some time now, they have come to my place three or four times, there is another one, Spendilove, they went there on several occasions.”
He said, most of the hotels do not have the financial capacity to employ professionally trained Security personnel therefore depend on private security but lack the ability to curb the menace.
Some hotels have been compelled to form vigilante groups who patrol their hotel environment whenever there is an occasion.
The robbery gang is reported to have ransacked Kwahu Bepong Apostolic Church and made away with church instruments and other valuables.
The Police has, however, arrest some suspected gang members including JHS pupils with some of the booty retrieved.
