First Lady Lordina Mahama was visibly overcome with emotion during a somber flower-laying ceremony to honor the eight victims of the helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6.
The crash, which claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others, including military personnel, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, has sent shockwaves across the nation.
As Mrs. Mahama paid her respects to the deceased, she broke down in tears, drawing sympathy from the dignitaries and mourners in attendance.
Her children and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah comforted her during this emotional moment. Meanwhile, Minister of Communications Sam George also became emotional, breaking down in tears.

The flower-laying ceremony is part of the national mourning activities ahead of the state burial scheduled for August 15, 2025.


The eight victims who lost their lives in the tragic accident were:
- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
- Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and MP for Tamale Central
- Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
- Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
