Dr. Freda Akosua Oheneafrewo Prempeh, the Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency in the Ahafo Region has filed her nomination forms to seek re-election in the January New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries.
It is the fourth bid to get the mandate of the constituents to represent them as the Member of Parliament since 2013.
Constituency Secretary, Stephen Ntiamoah Takyi received the forms duly filled at the constituency office in the presence of the constituency chairman, Mr. Karikari Apau.
Hundreds of delegates including polling stations executives of the Tano North Constituency accompany the Member of Parliament to file her nomination forms while drumming, singing and dancing to Jama sons through the principal streets of Duayaw Nkwanta.
The Minister for Sanitation endeared herself to the constituents by the numerous social interventions she had provided for the people.
These include the construction of a proposed Fire Academy Training school, two Astroturfs at Duayaw Nkwanta, road constructions as well as about 130 boreholes and water projects spread across the 25 Electoral areas in the Tano North constituency.
She thanked the Polling station executives who mobilized resources to secure the nomination forms on her behalf.
The Sanitation Minister said she trusts delegates and the youth would support her bid to help Dr. Bawumia break the 8 for the NPP in the 2024 elections.
The former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection has since launched her campaign for the bid.
She commended the polling station coordinators in the constituency for leading her campaign at the grassroot level and also sponsoring the picking of her nomination form.
“I would like to thank my Constituency Coordinators, they came together and bought the bankers draft for me at GHC. 3000.00. They came home and told me Mommy we want you to continue your good work you started for us in Tano North Constituency. I thank them so much. I also want to thank my delegates. They have been my bedrock and backbone, they have always been with me, they are solidly behind me. I want to assure them that I will continue to work hard to lift the image of Tano North on the flag of Ghana. What they are seeing in the constituency is the beginning of good things,” she added.
Mrs. Freda Prempeh polled 22,592 votes (54.18%) in the 2020 elections against 18,684 (44.81%) and 419 (1%) votes by the NDC and GUM candidates.
She told constituents at the launch yesterday that she would continue to touch base and seek their interest.
Appiah Dankwa, a Polling Station executive for Atonsu in Bomaa Zone electoral area, and other polling station executives, said the former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection would surely be given the nod at the primaries based on her commitment to improve the lot of the people evident in various developmental projects she has provided for the constituents.
“We have worked with several Members of Parliament in this constituency but Hon. Freda Prempeh stands tall. Dr Gideon Boako Should not come and disturb our peace in this constituency. When we were fighting for the Constituency he enjoyed the Ashanti region Youth Organizer Position. What chased him out of the region for this contest, for me as the President of University of Ghana Legon TESCON President on any day I will vote and campaign for the Sanitation minister who is a cabinet minister of the ruling New Patriotic Party’’ he said.
About 693 delegates would decide her fate in the primaries against Dr. Gideon Boako of the office of the Vice President before she seeks the mandate of the over 54,973 voters in the constituency in the general elections in December 2024.
