The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed claims of complacency in the face of reports of widespread malpractice in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), insisting it will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
In a statement signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said it had taken notice of a JoyNews TV report alleging various forms of cheating in some schools during the examination.
The GES indicated that it would secure the full documentary and original transcripts for scrutiny, after which a comprehensive investigation will be launched.
The Service stressed that it holds zero tolerance for examination malpractice, describing it as an act that undermines meritocracy, weakens the education system, and produces graduates without the required competencies for national development.
It vowed that any teaching or non-teaching staff found complicit in aiding or abetting cheating will face severe sanctions under the law and established regulations.
“Management reiterates its absolute aversion to examination malpractice. Cheating undermines the integrity of our education system, destroys meritocracy, and produces graduates who lack the competencies required for national development.”
GES has assured the public that with the backing of the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the GES Council, disciplinary action will be firmly applied against culprits.
It further emphasized the Service’s commitment to protecting the integrity of examinations, adding that it will collaborate with WAEC, National Security, and law enforcement agencies to root out malpractice in the education system.
