Member of the New Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Emmanuel Mettle Nunoo Jnr. has attributed Ghana’s recent economic progress and controlled inflation to pragmatic government policies rather than luck or magic.
Speaking on GHToday with Joshua Kodjo Mensah on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Nunoo Jnr. highlighted several factors behind the country’s achievements.
“One of the reasons why we have seen the success and the inflation that we have so far is because our cedi has appreciated. Another reason is because we’ve been able to cut down the size of government and save more from reckless spending,” he said.
He dismissed claims by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the government is not spending adequately. “Even in the last year, 2025, they said it wasn’t spending. They said it was spending where it was needed. And if you look at the spendings that were done, they are spendings that were relevant to the Ghanaian economy,” Nunoo Jnr. explained.

The government, he emphasised, has ensured that budgetary allocations translate into tangible projects. “It’s not that the government is not spending. It’s because we are putting measures in place. This is by pragmatic economic policies that we have put together,” he added.
Nunoo Jnr. cited the ongoing road constructions under the District Roads and Infrastructure Project (DRIP), led by Nii Lamptey Vanderpuye, as evidence of active government investment. “Today, the whole of Ghana has become a construction site. There’s no single region that you go to today that has no construction going on. Small districts and municipal assemblies across Ghana are also seeing road grading and other works,” he noted.
He concluded that the government’s targeted spending and strategic policies are driving both economic growth and national development.
