Ghana’s para athletes capped off a successful campaign at the inaugural West African Para Games in Abeokuta, Nigeria, finishing second overall with an impressive haul of 40 medals—4 gold, 15 silver, and 21 bronze.
The Ghanaian team, comprising over 60 athletes, competed across nine disciplines, with standout performances in Para Armwrestling. Tahiru Haruna clinched two gold medals, while Frank Fudzi and Isaac Nii Ayitey added bronze medals to the country’s tally.

Team Ghana’s Chef de Mission, Mary Apedo, expressed immense pride in the athletes’ achievements, noting their dedication and resilience. Coaches also lauded the performances and expressed optimism for future competitions.
The African Paralympic Committee President, Samson Deen, congratulated the team and announced cash prizes from himself, the ‘Walk With Julius’ team, and the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

Additionally, Sharaf Mahama, son of President John Dramani Mahama, gifted the athletes’ free tickets to a boxing bout in recognition of their efforts.
The National Sports Authority encouraged the athletes to remain focused on training and preparation for upcoming events, celebrating their contributions to Ghana’s growing profile in para sports.
