Ghana has signed a strategic agricultural partnership with the State of Nebraska in the United States aimed at strengthening local livestock production, expanding agro-processing, and reducing the Ghana’s dependence on imported dairy products.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, on behalf of the Government of Ghana with the Legislative Council of Nebraska State in the USA.

The agreement marks a significant step in Ghana’s efforts to modernise its agricultural sector through international partnerships, technology transfer, and investment in value-added production.

Nebraska is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading livestock-producing regions, with extensive expertise in dairy farming, meat production, animal genetics, feed systems, and agricultural processing.

Under the partnership, plans are underway to establish a dairy processing plant and a meat processing facility in Ghana to support local production and strengthen the country’s food value chain.

Agric minister, Eric Opoku described the agreement as a strategic intervention that aligns with government’s broader agricultural transformation agenda.

The initiative is also expected to support skills development, technology transfer, and investment in modern livestock production systems while creating new opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses.

Government officials say the agreement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen food security, promote agro-industrialisation, and build a more resilient agricultural economy capable of meeting domestic demand and supporting exports.

The partnership is expected to pave the way for deeper cooperation between Ghana and Nebraska in livestock development, agricultural research, processing, and agribusiness investment.
