Ghana and Serbia have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost sports diplomacy and development. The agreement, signed in Accra by Ghana’s Sports Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, and Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Marko Đurić, aims to enhance cooperation in areas such as talent exchange, coaching, and training.
Serbia’s advanced sports infrastructure will support Ghanaian athletes and coaches, while the collaboration also builds on historical ties between the two countries. Mr Đurić highlighted sports and culture as tools for peace and invited Ghana to the 2027 International Sports and Cultural Expo in Belgrade, themed “Play for Humanity.”
Minister Adams welcomed the partnership, noting its alignment with Ghana’s growing focus on basketball and the country’s 70th independence anniversary in 2027.
“This is fantastic news, particularly as 2027 marks Ghana’s 70th anniversary as an independent nation. Participating in the Serbia expo will be a great opportunity to showcase our sporting excellence and cultural identity,” Mr Adams stated.
He also encouraged Serbia to use Ghana as a training base, emphasising Ghana’s readiness and potential to benefit both nations.
“Our doors are open. Ghana is ready to receive Serbian teams and technical delegations. This partnership has great potential to create a lasting impact for both nations,” he added.
