Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed government’s unwavering commitment to restoring Ghana’s degraded environment, declaring that the country’s water bodies will be turned blue again and its forests green.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the Minister described the fight against illegal mining and environmental destruction as the “fight of our lifetime” and said the government, under President John Dramani Mahama, was fully committed to winning it.
“We are steadfast, committed, and focused on winning this fight of our lifetime. And with the political will and support of H.E. the President John Dramani Mahama, we will ensure that our water bodies are turned blue, our forests are turned green, and our environment is restored and preserved for posterity,” Hon. Buah said.
He emphasised that while government supports responsible mining, it will continue to clamp down on reckless, destructive mining practices.
“We are not against mining, but we believe that mining MUST be done responsibly and sustainably. We have drawn a line in the sand, and we will fight against irresponsible, reckless mining activities in any form,” he added.

The Minister also highlighted progress made under initiatives such as the Blue Water Initiative and the Tree for Life reforestation programme. So far, 7.6 million trees have been planted nationwide, with the goal of reaching 30 million by October 2025.
He called on Ghanaians and all stakeholders to rally behind the government’s efforts to save the nation’s natural resources and secure a better future for the next generation.
