A 40-year-old farmer, Prosper Kweku Amexo, who was wrongfully jailed in Togo over alleged stealing of cola nut has been released after serving four months in prison.
Prosper, a cash crop farmer in Kpoeta Achem in the Ho West district in the Volta region was apprehended by the Togolese police after he went missing on the 30th November 2018.
Prosper’s elder brother Amexo Michael, told Starrfm.com.gh his sibling arrived home on Saturday 23 February 2019 at 6 am, suffering from trauma and unable to speak.
Joy despite Prosper’s frailty
“He looked very skinny, beaten, sick and needing immediate medical attention,” he said.
According to Mr Amexo, despite Prosper’s bad health, the Amexo family is in joy for having its kindred back applauding the Ho West District Chief Executive for facilitating his release.
“We are much grateful for what the DCE, has done, he was restless after we reported the case to him, through him we were able to meet the regional minister, the ambassador to Togo and the police, everyone who helped us we are thanking them all,” he said.

Prosper was first caught on a farm at Kpoeta Zianu on disputed land on that 30th November by residents of Hanyigba Todzi a neighbouring community that falls under Togo.
He was later handed over to the Togolese police after which he was sentenced to jail in Kloto Central Prisons within the Republic of Togo without trial.
His family quickly petitioned the Ho West District Chief Executive, Ernest Apawu. A delegation led by the DCE visited him whilst in the prison, and also collaborated with the Ghana Embassy in Togo.
The intervention of the DCE led to the trial of Prosper where he was found not guilty of the allegation and released on Friday 22 2019.
