GHOne News’s business reporter, Francisca Dickson Arhin, has been awarded the Best in Business/Manufacturing/ Feature/ News story at the 2019 Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists awards.
It was a night of celebration for the best of the best in journalism with representation from almost all the top media houses in Accra.
The awards were given in nine competitive categories, Business, Finance, Agriculture, Technology, infrastructure, and among others.
But in the end, GHOne News’s Francisca Dickson Arhin’s story accorded her the honour of the Best in Business/Manufacturing/ Feature/ News story.
Her story titled: JOBLESS AGOTIME BEH YOUTH – Snail Farming Cutting Down Unemployment shown the light on her.
The story recounts how most of the youth in Agortime Beh in the Volta Region, who were once battling the sting of unemployment are now finding a new lease of life in snail farming and propelling their community’s development.
In a citation presented to her on the night, the jury recognised the practical investigative skill and use of simple language that showcased the need for creativity and entrepreneurship.
This is the second time Francisca is wining the same category of the awards with the first being in 2017.
For her prize, Francisca walked home with a plaque, citation, certificate, and a fridge.
The Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) was formed in 1990 to help develop the skills of journalists in business and financial reporting.
One of the objectives of the institute is to advance the study, development and application of improved financial and economic communication methods through appropriate hands-on approaches and platforms.
Over the past years, the Institute had lived up to this objective and positioned itself as an effective organisation that provides and promotes co-operation, common understanding and exchange of ideas in the field of economic and financial journalism.
This objective enabled members of the Institute to attend various workshops, seminars, roundtable discussions with captains of industry and commence as well as with government and non-governmental organisations on other various aspects of the economy.
