GHOneTV’ international mutiple award winning journalist, Ridwan Karim Dini-Osman has been shortlisted among 12 journalists across the world for the seventh Thomson Foundation young journalist award as part of the annual prestigious Foreign Press Association (FPA) Media Awards.

“The Tramadol abuse crisis spreading across Ghana is the focus of one of Ridwan’s video reports, as he takes the viewer on a journey to Old Fadama, Ghana’s largest slum where the synthetic opioid drug is regularly abused and destroying young lives. Used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain, Tramadol has had alarming take-up across Africa for its anti-fatigue effects, as well as its ability to improve sexual stamina and ease the pain of hunger. Ridwan’s report was followed by a nationwide campaign demanding action on smuggling and the sale of opioids” Thomson Foundation said in a statement on Friday 20th September, 2019.

According to the Thomson Foundation, The shortlist, hailing from Armenia, Ghana, Pakistan, Nigeria, South Africa, India and Sri Lanka won over judges at the foundation with their stories about putting all people first.

Each of the 12 shortlisted entrants will receive a certificate from Thomson Foundation and the opportunity to participate in its e-learning programme, Journalism Now.

Three finalists will be chosen by an independent panel of judges chosen by the UK’s Foreign Press Association and will be revealed next month. They will be flown to London to attend the gala awards ceremony where the winner will be announced.

Ridwan Karim Dini-Osman is a multiple award winning broadcast journalist with half a decade experience.

He began his journalism career with the JoyNews channel of the Multimedia Group Limited in 2013 as general news reporter.

He currently works at GHOneTV, one of Ghana’s most watched channels as a producer, a news anchor, and a senior reporter.

Ridwan is a recipient of the 2018 Lorenzo Natali Media Prize, a global prestigious award run by the European Commission.

Ridwan, in May 2018, was named as finalist for the 2018 edition of the International Centre for Journalists’ prestigious Michael Elliott Award.

He is Ghana’s 2017 Best reporter in Development Journalism.

He is also a recipient of the African Media Initiative award for Best African Journalist for Peace and Security Reporting 2017 and 2016 Best Journalist Award in Rural Reporting from the Ghana Journalists Association.

Ridwan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
