The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended the deadline for transitioning to the new gold trading license regime from May 21 to June 21, 2025, following several petitions from stakeholders.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, GoldBod announced that all persons currently holding licenses issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources may continue to purchase and deal in gold until the new deadline.
However, the Board emphasized that after June 21, 2025, only holders of a valid GoldBod license will be permitted to trade in gold. The continued use of PMMC or Ministry-issued licenses beyond the new deadline will be considered a punishable offense under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
While applications for GoldBod licenses may still be submitted after the deadline, trading without a GoldBod license after June 21 will not be permitted.

GoldBod also clarified that effective immediately (May 22, 2025), any export function attached to licenses previously issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has been revoked. From now on, only GoldBod as a corporate entity is authorized to export small-scale gold from Ghana.
The Board urged all interested individuals and entities to apply for a license via www.goldbod.gov.gh, stressing that while the application process will remain open beyond the deadline, trading privileges will be restricted to licensed individuals only.
GoldBod concluded by calling for public cooperation to support efforts aimed at optimizing the country’s gold resource management in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision.
