The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the commencement of licensing service providers in the gold trading sector, effective April 23, 2025.

According to a press statement signed by Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer, the move aims to restructure and streamline the industry.

Ghanaians aged 18 and above or fully-owned Ghanaian companies can apply for licenses online via the GoldBod’s website http://goldbod.gov.gh or physically at the Board’s office in Accra.

Available licenses include Aggregator, Self-financing Aggregator, and Buyer licenses (Tier 1 and Tier 2). Additional licenses, such as Refining, Smelting, Fabrication, Storage, Transportation, and Importation licenses, will be available for application in July 2025.

The GoldBod has directed all foreigners to exit the local gold trading market by April 30, 2025, warning that failure to comply will constitute a punishable offense under the Ghana GoldBod Act, 2025 (ACT 1140).

However, foreigners can apply to the GoldBod to off-take gold. The Board has also emphasized the importance of adhering to the official Bank of Ghana Reference Rate for gold transactions.

The GoldBod looks forward to working with stakeholders to develop the gold trading sector and encourages public cooperation and feedback. Applicants are required to carefully read and accept the Terms and Conditions before proceeding with their license application.

Below is the full statement from Goldbod:
