The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development is set to embark on field verification operations to handle petitions for the creation and elevation of various Municipal and District Assemblies (M/DAs).
In a letter dated September 12, 2024, the ministry revealed that “The Ministry has received petitions from Chiefs, Traditional Authorities, Members of Parliament, Opinion Leaders, Citizens, Municipal and District Assemblies (M/DAs) for the creation and elevation of some M/DAs.”
The ministry has acted decisively in response to these petitions by forming an Inter-Institutional Task Team to supervise the requests’ field evaluations. The Chief Director of the Ministry, Amin Abdul-Rahaman, emphasised the scope of this endeavour by stating, “The Ministry has constituted an Inter-Institutional Task Team to undertake field assessment of the petitions and make recommendations to the Honourable Minister. This ensures that all requests are thoroughly evaluated, and only those that meet the necessary criteria will be recommended for elevation or creation.”
The ministry has asked that all affected M/DAs get ready for the impending verification process, which started on Sunday, September 15, 2024, and will end on Friday, September 20, 2024. The letter mentioned, “Subsequently, you are kindly informed to notify the affected M/DAs herein copied to hold themselves in readiness for the field verification exercises.”
The ministry stressed the need for collaboration from the impacted M/DAs to guarantee the exercise’s successful completion. “M/DAs should endeavour to accord the task team the necessary support by making available all the relevant documents, maps, and photographs for the successful completion of this important national assignment,” the letter stressed.
The Ministry has also allowed for any questions that might come up along the way. The letter invited interested parties to contact Ms. Miriam Nana Ama Amoah, the Head of the Decentralisation Unit, with any questions. “Do not hesitate to contact Ms. Miriam Nana Ama Amoah for further clarification.”
