Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has disclosed that government has so far paid ¢12 billion out of about ¢40 billion in inherited road project commitments, as part of efforts to sustain ongoing infrastructure works across the country.
He said the payments reflect government’s commitment to ensuring continuity of critical road projects, including the Accra–Kumasi Highway dualisation, which remains a key priority alongside the proposed Expressway.
According to him, despite concerns over delays and worsening conditions on sections of the Accra–Kumasi stretch, government is determined not to abandon the project.
Mr. Agbodza once again declared the commitment of the Mahama administration in completing all inherited projects, disclosing that ¢12 billion out of ¢40 billion has been paid to contractors for inherited projects.
The Minister made the remarks when he met contractors and consultants working on bypasses at Osino, Anyinam and Konongo, where he set a 2027 deadline for the completion of ongoing works.
He also directed the Ghana Highway Authority to renegotiate expired contracts and formalise new agreements with contractors to reflect revised timelines.
Mr. Agbodza noted that delays had significantly increased the cost of the Accra–Kumasi dualisation project from an initial ¢1.9 billion to over ¢4 billion.
The contractors and consultants, however, appealed for the timely release of additional funds to help speed up work and meet the new completion target.
