The seeming lack of action by the Akufo- Addo government over alleged corrupt cases in the previous administration is making its promise to fight the canker doubtful, anti-corruption advocate, Vitus Azeem has said.
After almost 11 months in power, the government has not been seen taking action against any persons suspected to have been embroiled in corrupt acts, although in opposition, the NPP labeled appointees of the previous administration as corrupt.
An October timeline set by the government to begin the prosecution of corruption cases has also expired. On Monday, November 6, the Vice President suggested that very soon, Ghanaians will begin to see action against persons who caused the state to lose money.
But former Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative Vitus Azeem says the talk is getting too much.
“This government announced that in October they are going to start prosecuting people, we are in November and we have not heard anything. And I have said you don’t say you are going to prosecute past public officials, but rather corrupt public officials including your own people otherwise you can never be serious with the fight against corruption.
“The proper approach is to target all corrupt public officials when there are credible allegations against public officials, whether current or past and they are found culpable you deal with them according to the law,” he told Starr News.
