Members of the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Container Owners Association of CMB have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in what they describe as an attempted takeover of their land, which they have occupied since 1986.
According to the groups, one alleged Dasebre Dr. Assumadu Nyarko Appiah is laying claim to the property, a situation they say has already resulted in the loss of several lorry stations and trading spaces.

Presenting the petition at the Presidency, the Industrial Relations Officer of GPRTU, Alhaji Abass Imoro, said the activities of private developers and the railway authorities have worsened the problem.
He stressed that the union prefers dialogue to violence and was hopeful the President would step in to protect their interests and help revive the CMB lorry park.

Receiving the petition on behalf of President Mahama, Presidential Staffer Bridget Otto commended the GPRTU and traders for choosing dialogue.
She assured them that the President takes the matter seriously and would give it the necessary attention.

The groups expressed optimism that government intervention would help secure the land and provide space to sustain their operations.
