The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed that an immediate and comprehensive audit be carried out across all health facilities in the Oti Region, following concerns raised during his official visit to the area.
The directive comes after a two-day working tour, during which the Minister held engagements with health workers, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders on ways to improve healthcare delivery in the region.
Discussions focused particularly on incentives for health personnel, including newly posted medical doctors, and broader strategies to address poor health indicators.
Addressing stakeholders, Mr. Akandoh indicated that the audit is a critical first step toward identifying gaps and finding sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the region’s health sector.
“There are a lot of conversations I’ll have with them behind the scenes, I cannot put out here. So Regent Minister, it is one of the reasons why we are here,” he said.
He announced that a technical team, led by his advisors and made up of key stakeholders, will spearhead the audit process and guide government interventions.
“My team, my technical advisor is going to lead a team of all stakeholders, and I will be guided how to solve all these problems, all the health indicators,” the Minister stated.
Mr. Akandoh stressed that the process will involve both central government and local actors, including chiefs and community leaders, working together to reverse the region’s health challenges.
“So I’ve asked that a complete audit of all the health facilities in Oti must be done immediately. So chiefs, ministers, everybody must have a small committee. What is it that central government can do? What is it that locally we can do? We must turn that story around next year. This cannot be said about Oti,” he added.
The Health Minister assured residents that the findings from the audit will inform targeted interventions aimed at improving healthcare delivery and outcomes in the Oti Region.
