Hearts of Oak began their 2025 GHALCA Top 4 campaign on a winning note, sealing a slim 1-0 victory over Heart of Lions on Wednesday night at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The preseason competition was originally scheduled for the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi but was relocated to Legon due to ongoing renovation works.
In a fiercely contested match, both sides created several scoring opportunities but struggled to find the back of the net.
The breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Ebenezer Abban unfortunately turned Ransford Mensah’s well-delivered free-kick into his own goal, handing Hearts the decisive advantage.
The Phobians will now shift focus to their second game against league champions Bibiani Gold Stars on Friday, August 22, while Heart of Lions prepare to battle Asante Kotoko in their next fixture of the tournament.
