Help address conflicts in Africa – Akufo-Addo to KAIPTC Graduands

President Akufo-Addo has charged the 2017 graduating class of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) to use their knowledge in helping resolve the many conflicts threatening the continent’s quest for peace and stability.

The 2017 KAIPTC graduating badge received training in Executive Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security (EMCPS), Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security (MCPS), and Master of Arts in Gender, Peace and Security (MGPS).

Addressing the Centre’s 6th Joint Graduation Ceremony Wednesday, December 20 president Akufo-Addo noted that the continent is awaiting the contribution of the graduands in securing her peace after going through various programmes in peace, Gender and Security.

The Graduands

The overall best student in the Executive Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security (EMCPS) programme went to Ms. Nadine Ernestine Jeanne Pauline Merks from the Netherlands.

The overall best student in the Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security (MCPS) went to Mr.  Iron Humapwa Udoh from Nigeria while the overall best student in the Master of Arts in Gender, Peace and Security (MGPS) went to Ms. Linda Yaa Addo Frimpong from Ghana.

In all 28 persons graduated with Master of Arts in conflict, peace and security, 25 persons graduated with Masters of Arts in Gender, peace and security and 24 persons graduated with Executive Master of Arts in conflict peace and security.

Among the latest group of graduands is Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings.

KAIPTC Goodwill Ambassadors

As part of the graduation event, an inauguration ceremony was held to officially commission six (6) Goodwill Ambassadors comprising eminent personalities from Ghana and abroad for the KAIPTC.

They are; Dr.  Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse, Dr.  Mohammed Ibn Chambers, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Africa and the Sahel and Dr.  Hadja Saran Daraba Kana, Former Secretary General of Many River Union Secretariat.

The rest are; Cardinal Peter Turkson,  first Prefect of the Dicastery for promoting integral Human Development, Vatican City,  H.E. Ellen Margrethe, former special representative of the secretary General  United Nations mission in Liberia and South Sudan and Ken Ofori Atta, Finance Minister of Ghana.

The ambassadors’ primary functions are to assist the centre to leverage funds and strategic partnerships towards ensuring the long term institutional and financial sustainability of the centre.

They are also expected to help in enhancing the visibility of the centre and facilitate opportunities on strategic platforms in regional and international circles for the centre to share its research findings during high profile policy dialogues on African peace and Security.
