ProForum, a group of professionals associated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging the Member of Parliament for Hohoe, John Peter Amewu to use his last days in Parliament to push for the continuation of work on some abandoned projects in his constituency.
At a press conference held in Hohoe, the group cited a $160m project on the Fodome campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences as an abandoned project started under the erstwhile Mills/Mahama administration and tasked the MP and government to complete them before the December 7 elections.
In 2021, President Akufo-Addo as part of his tour of the Volta region, inspected ongoing works on the proposed permanent Hohoe campus of UHAS, located at Fodome.

The project which started under the erstwhile NDC administration was intended to provide lecture halls and several other ancillary facilities needed to enhance teaching and learning in the university and was estimated to cost $160m.
However, since that visit, nothing significant was done on the project.
Andy Agbi who spoke on behalf of Proforum during the press conference questioned the government’s commitment to completing the project.

“Until his untimely demise, the late Prof. Mills made significant efforts to lay a strong foundation for the university’s positive growth. His successor (John Dramani Mahama), continued these efforts on the campuses of Ho and Hohoe.”
These efforts the group noted, culminated in the construction of temporal structures including lecture halls, administrative offices, a library, hotels, and a guest house for students and lecturers on the Hohoe campus.
According to the group, the NDC government secured land for the permanent campus, and significant construction works were done on it before it exited office in 2016.
“Regrettably, with the change of government in 2016, the NPP government abandoned the project -leaving it to rot in the bush. All efforts to draw the attention of the current MP to the plight of the school has proven futile. There was no instance where the Hon John Peter Amewu raised the issue of educational development in Hohoe on the floor of parliament.”
The poor roads leading to the Hohoe township were also part of the concerns raised by the group which they say is a sharp contrast to recent claims of massive road works done in Hohoe by John Peter Amewu and his government.
The group also accused the MP, John Peter Amewu of failing to honor several promises he made to the people of Hohoe prior to the 2020 election including the popular promise of “one family, one opportunity,” tapping of water from Kpando to Hohoe, an extension of railway network through Hohoe to the North among other promises.
The group further urged constituents to do away with John Peter Amewu and go back to the NDC and its parliamentary candidate, Efo Worlanyo Tsekpo at the December polls to ensure rapid development of the area.
