The National House of Chiefs has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two cabinet ministers, senior military officers, and top government officials on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a statement signed by Stephen Owusu, Public Relations Officer for the President of the House, the traditional leaders described the incident as a “national loss” and extended their condolences to the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the bereaved families.
“With deep sorrow and a profound sense of national loss, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the government, the military, the National Democratic Congress Party (NDC), and all the bereaved families,” the statement read. “Their immense sacrifices, loyalty, commitment and unwavering dedication to public service will not be forgotten.”
The House also called on government, corporate bodies, the diplomatic community, traditional leaders, religious groups, and well-meaning individuals to support the families in any form acceptable to them.

“Words cannot take the pains of their families away, but we hope they will find comfort in God Almighty,” the statement added, praying for eternal rest for the departed and comfort for their families.

The tribute follows the national mourning declared by President John Dramani Mahama after the Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter, traveling from Accra to Obuasi, crashed in the Adansi area shortly after losing contact with radar. Among the deceased were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, military crew members, and other senior officials.
