The Chiefs and people of the Agotime Traditional Area have signed a memorandum of understanding with the fashion department of the Ho Technical University ahead of this year’s Agotime Kente festival.
The signing of the MoU was led by the committee on entertainment for the 2024 Agotime Kente festival which will allow the university to partake in a fashion show and exhibition intended to highlight the unique and innovative use of Kente fabric beyond its traditional use, at this year’s festival.
The MoU will create an exclusive platform for students from the fashion department of the university to display their skills with at least, ten students expected to showcase their works during the festival.
The university, per the arrangement, will oversee the involvement of the students in the designing process and also guarantee their readiness and attendance.
Critical to the agreement is for the university to ensure that designs from the selected students adhere to the theme of the event.
The history initiative was led by Norbert Kporku, Chairman of the 2024 Kente Festival Entertainment Committee on behalf of the Agotime Traditional area, and Dr. Daniel Agbeko, head of the Fashion Department of the university.
The Agotime Kente festival which is popularly known as Agbamevorzã showcases the rich culture of the people of Agotime.
The festival began in 1995 and has been celebrated over the years to preserve the heritage of the Kente fabric handed over from generations.
The annual celebration is used to unite the people of the area for social and economic development with a key focus on tourism.
This year’s festival which is on the theme: “Repositioning the Kente Festival for Inclusive Development”, is scheduled to commence on August 4, to August 11, 2024.
