Health Minister-designate Kwaku Agyeman-Manu says he is yet to see a copy of the contract between government of Ghana and Frontier Health Services Limited – the company providing COVID-19 testing at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
When asked about details of the contract of the company charging travellers $150 for a test during his vetting by the Appointments Committee Wednesday, Mr Manu, who was Ghana’s Health Minister, when the contract was signed said: “I haven’t seen it please”.
The Minister-designate also noted the contract was given to the then unlicensed company because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Were were not in normal times and so there were certain things we had to do and then try to rectify them as we go forward because of the urgency of what we should do immediately. I am not very privy to the initial stages of the procurement because it was a joint operation between the National Covid-19 taskforce and the Ghana Health Service (GHS). By the time it came to my notice, they had finished the arrangements”.
Government engaged the company to conduct rapid COVID-19 tests of passengers since the opening of the airport to International Passenger flights.
But the NDC MPs argue the fact that the company was incorporated just days before the reopening of the airport raises eyebrows.
