Security consultant Richard Kumadoe has dismissed criticisms surrounding the two-year extension of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as “propaganda,” insisting that the IGP’s performance merits the continuation of his tenure.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Wednesday, November 26, Mr. Kumadoe highlighted the IGP’s operational competence, leadership, and collaborative approach with key units such as the CID.
“Other than that, I think people want to drag into the area of NDC-NPP policies, which is unproductive sometimes,” he said.
President John Dramani Mahama approved Yohuno’s re-engagement until December 28, 2025, following recommendations from the Police Council, aiming to sustain ongoing reforms and ensure stability within the Ghana Police Service.
Mr. Kumadoe emphasized Yohuno’s performance in previous electoral events, personnel management, and his ability to maintain unity among police leadership as key reasons for the extension.
“Yohuno did it quickly…deservedly, people had their promotion. There were some other people who were sent home, and people felt that the Ghana Police Management Board felt that it was too high. So they called them back. Yohannu called them back,” he said, noting the recall of the director of the Cyber Security Authority as an example.
Mr. Kumadoe argued that the core duties of policing—crime prevention, investigation, prosecution, security operations, and leadership—are the proper measures of an IGP’s effectiveness.
He urged critics to focus on these areas rather than superficial concerns.
“If crimes are detected and prevented, why? They have done their job. And that is where we are. Those are no arguments. Those are propaganda. And they have nothing to do with law enforcement.”
He further advised that whoever takes over from Yohuno should maintain the stability, continuity, and operational efficiency he has established.
