The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mustapha Gbande has demanded the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Jean Mensah and her two deputies Dr. Bosman Asare and Samuel Tettey.
According to Mustapha Gbande, this request which he calls a necessary cleanup will make way for credible, free and fair elections devoid of acrimonies.
In an interview with host Julius Caesar Anadem on the Ultimate Breakfast Show the deputy General Secretary described Jean Mensah’s posturing and actions towards her work as politically tainted.
“Jean Mensah is an NPP Akufo Addo induced commissioner who but for the love between the NDC and NPP; could have thrown this country into flames,” he explained.
“They did a poor job, and nearly set this country on fire but for the restraint of the two political parties.”
He indicated pointed out that apart from the commissioners, any other EC director who demonstrated political bias in the 2024 Elections will be shown the exit.
“Jean Mensah is corrupt and she will go. Bosman Asare will go and Tettey will go. Every regional EC director who has demonstrated to be political will go.
Gbande argued that the EC Chair announced her departure when she concluded the declaration of the presidential polls with the quote ‘it is finished’.
“By that statement, she announced her departure. She is finished her work and she must leave,” he noted.
Mustapha Gbande recommended that instead of leave such sensitive appointments to the president and the council of State, a more neutral and nonpartisan body be allowed to begin making such appointments.
I would wish that we get to a place where chiefs, pastors, peace council will nominate persons to the electoral commission.
“We should neither have an NDC induced EC nor an NPP induced EC. We should have a commissioner that represents Ghana and a commissioner that is neutral,” he insisted.
